Purpose:
The purpose of the service program for students at O’Gorman High School, by virtue of their baptismal call, is putting faith into action, words into deeds and reinforcing the gospel message that Jesus, our model, came not to be served but to serve. It is our hope that our students learn that love of God cannot be separated from love of neighbor, and that the habit of service will last a lifetime. The service program is required of all students who are enrolled in a Theology course. More information on student expectations and guidelines for service can be found in the student/parent handbook.
To earn service hours, parents/guardians and students could consider options such as:
School sponsored service opportunities are announced in the school bulletin and in our Theology classes. Sign-ups are made available in the Campus Ministry Office (K-100)
* Parish activities
* Diocesan activities
* Volunteering at agencies that assist the poor in our community (e.g. The Banquet, St. Francis House, etc.)
* Volunteering at a nursing home or hospital
* Other areas (Students are required to confer with their Theology teacher prior to any service opportunity that is questionable in its eligibility to qualify for service hours.)

| Description | We are looking for Ball Buddies to assist a Miracle League youth or adult player with special needs. Ball Buddies are used primarily in the infield when the other team is batting to assist players with retrieving the ball and throwing it to the appropriate base, they also assist players during their turn to bat and while running the bases. Each Miracle League player has one game per week. The same Ball Buddy matched to a certain player each week is the BEST, but not always conducive. If a student, or a group of students could commit to ONE game …..they will make a difference!!! |

| Description | There is an ongoing opportunity for providing music for those who are at the end of their life. Sing or play your instruments in a home like setting, and bring comfort, hope, and the peace of God to those around you. In addition, there is a digital piano in the living room that is available for those who wish to play. If you sing, please sing low and soft, as in a lullaby or intimate prayer. Each cottage houses four patients. Please select spiritually focused music that is quieter, tender, and offers hope and peace. Old hymns will promote remembrance which will help them reflect on God’s hand in their life. For example, “Precious Lord, Take My Hand” acknowledges the journey toward God and offers hope. “Amazing Grace” reflects on one’s life and ends with joyous presence with God. “Abide With Me” addresses the yearning for the presence of God. These are just a few examples among many, many opportunities. Enjoy exploring music that is appropiate for end of life ministry. Thank you for serving Christ this way! |
