Welcome to the newest Catholic elementary school in Sioux Falls – St. Katharine Drexel!  In response to the growing demand for Catholic education from the families of the west side of Sioux Falls and surrounding areas, St. Katharine Drexel Catholic School opened its doors in the Fall of 2008 as a Preschool through 1st grade school.  Each year we will grow the school by adding one grade up to 6th grade. A building project was recently completed to add a gym/parish center, office area, and more classrooms onto our school. For the 2012-2013 school year, we are offering Preschool through 5th grade.  For the 2013-2014 school year, we will offer Preschool through 6th grade.

We begin our week with students saying a decade of the Rosary together, we have School Mass every Wednesday morning, and most classes end the week with a visit to the chapel.  Fr. Joe also teaches in each classroom on a weekly basis, which the students really enjoy!

At St. Katharine Drexel School, we place a strong emphasis on teaching the students about the Virtues and Fruits of the Holy Spirit (respect, responsibility, gratitude, service, honesty, love, compassion, forgiveness, manners, trust, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, self-control, and joy).  Each month Mrs. Kerkvliet, the school principal, teaches a Bible lesson in classrooms related to the Virtue or Fruit of the Spirit of the Month.

If you came to our school, you would see a very caring and spiritual staff who knows each child as an individual.  We have small class sizes that average about 15 students which are great for meeting each student’s unique needs.  Each classroom beginning in kindergarten has an interactive Promethean Board for teachers and students to use in the learning process.  Parents are actively involved in school activities and with our School Family Organization (SFO).

St. Katharine Drexel School hours are as follows:

Monday – Friday  7:45 a.m. – 2:45 p.m.

We offer a T/Th Morning Preschool class from 7:45-10:45 for 3-4 year-olds, as well as a M/W/F Preschool class from 7:45-10:45 for 4-5 year-olds.  In addition, we offer Jumpstart every afternoon from 11:45-2:45 for those students not quite ready for kindergarten.  An Extended Learning class is a great option for preschoolers whose parents wish for them to stay the whole school day, and there is a flexible schedule of options.   STRETCH Club is offered after school from 2:45-6:00 for an extra fee for any children enrolled in the school.

Please give us a call if you have any questions or would like to take a tour!  (605-275-6994)

St. Katharine Drexel Prayer

Ever-loving God, You called Saint Katharine Drexel
to teach the message of the Gospel and to bring the life of the Eucharist
to the African American and Native American peoples.
By her prayers and example, enable us to work for justice among the poor and the oppressed,
and keep us undivided in love in the Eucharistic community of Your Church.
Grant this through our Lord Jesus Christ, Your Son, who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit,
one God, forever and ever. Amen.
